Sue Parker | End-of-Life Doula Services & Community Support

Hello and welcome

I’m so glad you’ve found your way here.

Welcome to Compassionate Care Services. Here is where you’ll experience my core values: Care, Compassion, and Companionship when you need them most!

This is a safe and compassionate space for individuals, families, and caregivers navigating the tender terrain of end-of-life. Whether you’re planning ahead, caring for someone you love, or facing your own mortality, you don’t have to walk this path alone.

What is an end-of-life doula?

Doulas are not a new phenomenon; they have existed for centuries, although much of the knowledge and skills associated with them have been lost in modern times. The word “doula” originates from ancient Greek and means “a woman who serves.”

During life’s most profound transitions, such as birth and death, communities would call upon doulas for their experience, calmness, care, and presence during these sacred moments.

Over time, however, this tradition has faded. Advances in medicine and technology, cultural shifts, urbanisation, and the increasing distance between families have shifted the experiences from home to institutions. What was once a shared and intimate process has become clinical and unfamiliar.

As a doula specialising in end-of-life care, I focus on gently reclaiming this lost tradition—bringing death back into the circle of community and care.

Dying is not just a medical event; it is a profoundly human experience. No one should have to face it feeling alone or unsupported.

Walking with you every step of the way

I provide emotional, practical, and informational support to individuals and their families during one of life’s most tender times. My support can begin in wellness or at the time of diagnosis, continue throughout your journey, and extend beyond death—holding space for everything in between.

I support you by providing choices, enhancing your capacity, and ensuring you have control over your care. I aim to keep your care centred around what matters most to you, ultimately promoting your quality of life.

Doctors and specialists may come and go throughout your journey, but I can be a constant presence—someone who provides continuity of care and helps hold the threads together, ensuring you and your loved ones feel supported every step of the way.

I do not provide medical advice, treatments, or medications—that’s the responsibility of the palliative care team. My role complements theirs by focusing on the human side of care: helping you feel heard, respected, and empowered. I offer options, not instructions, and I always strive to honour your values and wishes.

Ultimately, part of my work is about bringing what has become a medicalised experience back to where it began—in the heart of the community, surrounded by care, connection, and compassion.

Connected care through trusted networks

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all support. If a situation arises that’s beyond my scope, I’ll connect you with the right professionals from my network—whether it’s legal, medical, emotional, or spiritual support. I’m here to walk alongside you and ensure you’re never alone in navigating the next step.

What I offer

Two cups of coffee on a wooden table.

Companionship

Whether it’s sharing a cuppa and a chat, enjoying a favourite hobby, or simply sitting in quiet presence, I offer gentle companionship to brighten the day and ease feelings of loneliness.

Respite care

Caring for a loved one can be deeply meaningful but also tiring. I offer short-term respite care, allowing family caregivers to take a well-deserved break, knowing their loved one is supported with kindness and respect.

I provide safe and reliable transportation to medical appointments, social outings, or errands, ensuring comfort and peace of mind along the way.

End-of-life services

I offer practical support, emotional care, and guidance tailored to the individual’s needs. My role is to accompany the traveller and their loved ones to help plan, honour wishes, ease anxiety, and bring a sense of calm and dignity throughout the process.

Bringing care back to community

My work is about bringing what can feel like a very medicalised experience back to where it began—in the heart of the community, surrounded by care, connection, and compassion.
